Young Leaders meet Sir David Beckham at Inter Miami

The second stop of the #IAmSomebody Tour took seven Street Child United Young Leaders to Inter Miami CF for a day that was about far more than football.
A surprise in the dressing room
The day began with a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium. Then came a surprise: a meeting with Sir David Beckham in the Inter Miami home dressing room. He welcomed the group and gave each Young Leader a personalised Inter Miami shirt with their own name on the back.
A conversation, not a photo opportunity
The Young Leaders then sat down with Beckham and representatives from Bank of America for an intimate roundtable on leadership, identity and creating change.
Beckham asked each of them to reflect on what leadership means to them, when they first recognised themselves as a leader, and what the I Am Somebody message represents in their own lives. The conversation moved through visibility, gender equality and access to opportunity, and the role football can play in breaking down barriers and changing perceptions.
Most importantly, it gave the Young Leaders space to draw on their own lived experience and speak directly about the issues affecting street-connected young people.
"I can't tell you all how inspiring you all are and how incredible you all are… We are all part of it because we are all part of this journey. And I like to think that I played a small part in this, I am a small part of this team, and it makes me feel really proud." - Sir David Beckham.
Beyond the room
Beckham later shared a video recapping the day and the mission of Street Child United with his global Instagram audience. It generated more than 190,000 likes and put the I Am Somebody campaign in front of people who may never have heard of us.
"Meeting Sir David Beckham was a dream come true. These experiences help Young Leaders understand the power we have to make an impact, while helping us raise the profile of the programme around the world." - Deyna, SCU Young Leader
Why it matters
The message was simple: their experiences matter, their voices matter, they are somebody. In Miami, it reached a new global audience.
