Accessibility Statement
We are committed to making this website usable by everyone.
Last updated: April 2026
Our commitment
Street Child United is committed to ensuring this website is accessible to all users, regardless of disability or the technology they use to browse. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, in line with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
What we’ve done
- Semantic HTML throughout — correct heading hierarchy and landmark regions
- All images have descriptive alternative text
- Colour contrast meets WCAG 2.1 AA minimum ratios
- Full keyboard navigation without requiring a mouse
- Skip-to-content link for keyboard users
- Forms labelled correctly and error messages clearly associated with fields
- No content flashes more than three times per second
- Responsive design that works at 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling
Known limitations
We are continually improving the site. Current known limitations include:
- Embedded maps — Google Maps iframes have limited keyboard and screen reader support. We provide a text alternative (our address and contact email) alongside all map embeds.
- Third-party video embeds — YouTube videos may have auto-generated captions. We are working to ensure all critical video content has accurate captions.
Technical specification
This site is built with Next.js and rendered server-side. It has been tested using:
- Chrome, Firefox, and Safari (latest versions)
- NVDA screen reader on Windows
- VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Automated checks via axe DevTools and Lighthouse accessibility audit
