Until recently, store we have been known as Street Child World Cup because it’s the name of our flagship event. Our charity name is Street Child United, view which embodies our aim and ambition – to unite street children, our partners and our supporters into a movement dedicated to improving the lives of street children.
Because of this, we have made the decision to transition to Street Child United and now our website and social media channels reflect this exciting move forward.
The Street Child World Cup (SCWC) of course remains central to our objective to provide a global platform for street children to have their voices heard, and we are intent on making the next SCWC in 2018 the biggest and most impactful yet!
As well as working towards the next SCWC, we are thrilled to announce the launch of a new campaign. As the eyes of the world return to Brazil and Rio de Janeiro ahead of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we will host the first Street Child Games. Up to 100 former street children from 20 countries will unite for Olympic-themed sports, a festival of arts and the Street Child Congress, representing the rights of millions of children surviving on the streets today.
Building on the effectiveness of the SCWC model, the Street Child Games will provide a unique global platform for street child ambassadors to show the world what they can acheive when they access their rights.
Ahead of the Street Child Games, we are bringing all of our project partners together in London this September for the second Street Child United Summit. The Summit will act as a hub for our incredible partners to focus on the key issues that matter to the street children that we serve, and establish how we can use the collective force of Street Child United to make a lasting difference to street children across the world.
John Wroe, CEO of Street Child United said, “It’s overwhelming what has been achieved in such a short space of time over the course of two hugely successful Street Child World Cup campaigns in 2010 and 2014. It has been made possible because of the incredible children we serve, our network of partners working everyday on the frontline to support them and our supporters who make our work possible.
As Street Child United we will continue to build on the impact we’ve made challenging negative perceptions, and crucially, the treatment of street children across the world. We will be united in striving for their protection and support. United in ensuring street children access their rights and the opportunities they deserve to realise their potential.
Street Child World Cup, has become Street Child United – what it was always meant to be.”
We simply couldn’t do this without you! Together we are Street Child United.
