SCWC received by Brazilian Government

Posted on the 14th September 2013

The Street Child World Cup has been received by the Brazilian Government in Brasilia as part of the Criança não é da rua (Children are not of the street) campaign which we are supporting across Brazil. Represented by Brazilian supporter and volunteer Mrs Inez de Azevedo we were delighted to meet Mrs Angélica Goulart, the National Secretary for the Promotion of the rights of Children and Adolescents.

Mrs Azevedo was accompanied by Mr Adriano Ribeiro from our Fortaleza partners O Pequeno Nazareno as she introduced the aims and objectives of the movement. Together they then made three official requests to Government on behalf of the Street Child World Cup:

1. A public declaration of political and institutional support to the Criança não é da rua movement which the Street Child World Cup is backing

2. A statement of support and commitment of the Federal Government to the development of a national policy to counter the situation of Street children and adolescents at risk of the streets

3. Support in mapping the current number of children living on the streets as well as the creation of a national database for monitoring and recording the social phenomenon

Ms Angélica Goulart has pledged to give an answer as soon and possible and warmly welcomed all the requests of the Street Child World Cup. The Secretary was invited to attend the Street Child World Cup in March 2014. More to follow…
