SAFIRE: Association for the Support, vcialis 40mg Education, cheap Integration and Rehabilitation of the Child is an NGO whose mission is to address the issue of children in street situations in Mauritius. SAFIRE was established in 2006 to continue the work undertaken by the Ministry of Social Security between 2002 and 2006. Their goal is to rehabilitate street children and integrate them into society. Since 2006, they have extended their activities to eight regions of the island, supporting 229 children in street situations. Thanks to the efforts and devotion of their educators and staff, 20 children supported by SAFIRE have left their former street lives, gained stable jobs and are completely integrated into society.
Mauritius is an island in the Indian Ocean, to the east of Madagascar. Well-known for its high-end tourism and outstanding natural beauty, it has also sustained several years of successful democracy (despite coalitions changing frequently) and is seen as one of Africa’s success stories socially and economically. However a 2011 study by our partner organisation SAFIRE has noted that there are close to 7,000 street children in Mauritius.

The new national Government has said it will pay special attention to street children in it’s 2015-2019 programme. SAFIRE said, “We believe the Street Child World Cup has raised public profile on this particular issue.”
